Hello everyone,
My name is Thomas Erickson, and I am a globally recognized tobacco industry expert. I’ve spent the last 25 years immersing myself in the world of tobacco, understanding its complexities, impacts, and potential. Currently, I reside in beautiful New Zealand, enjoying its serene landscapes and clean air, a wonderful contrast to my work.
I began my career at British American Tobacco, where I started as a field researcher, studying different tobacco strains and cultivation practices. My diligent work quickly propelled me to the role of Senior Product Development Specialist, where I led a team developing innovative tobacco blends.
From there, I made the transition to Philip Morris International, serving as the Chief Quality Assurance Officer for a decade. I oversaw stringent product quality measures and ensured regulatory compliance across multiple jurisdictions. This role allowed me to further my understanding of the industry and its multifaceted nature.
Throughout my career, I’ve been fortunate to receive numerous accolades. I am particularly proud of the Golden Leaf Award I received in 2020 for my contribution to product development and innovation within the industry. And in 2022, I was honored with the Lifetime Achievement Award by the Global Tobacco & Nicotine Forum.
Regarding my personal accomplishments, I’ve authored over 50 research papers on tobacco science and have been instrumental in developing new strains of tobacco with lower nicotine content, an achievement I consider one of my most impactful contributions to the industry.
When I’m not engrossed in the world of tobacco, you’ll find me painting, a hobby that I am extremely passionate about. The calm and tranquility of the New Zealand landscapes have been a great source of inspiration for my artwork. I also love hiking and exploring the stunning outdoors that my beautiful homeland has to offer.
In addition, I have a keen interest in vintage cars. Over the years, I’ve restored a handful of classic models, and I take pride in their gleaming bodies and purring engines. These hobbies help me keep a healthy balance and provide a wonderful contrast to my professional life.
